Fake Hate Crime
Have you heard about the professor, formerly of Claremont McKenna College in southern California, who was convicted of staging a hate crime by spraying painting racial slurs on her own car? She’s just been sentenced to a year in jail for filing a false police report and attempted insurance fraud.
Pretty sad set of events -- apparently, there had already been some incident(s) of racism on the campus and she allegedly tried to incite more passion against hate by her act. Not sure what to make of it, other than to say that if the allegations against her are true, while I can certainly appreciate her motives in trying to galvanize support against racism and bigotry (not an easy thing to do), this was definitely not the way to garner more support for the cause.
