UMass 45th Best University in the World

A recent study conducted by the London Times ranked the top universities in the world according to the following criteria: international reputation (50%), research impact (20%), faculty-to-student ratio (20%), percentage of international undergraduate students (5%), and percentage of international faculty (5%).

I was somewhat surprised to learn that the UMass system (all five campuses were considered as one) was ranked #45 in the world. This places UMass ahead of notable universities such as Duke (#52), University of Wisconsin (#66), NYU (#79), and Case Western (#88). The results also show that based on reputation alone, UMass ranked #22 in the list of best universities in North America and 15th based on the number of citations per faculty member.

Not too bad . . .
