Gender Pay Gap in Ivy League Schools
Bloomberg.com has an interesting article that describes recent findings by the American Association of University Professors which point out that among Ivy League schools, Brown and Princeton had the smallest pay gap between its male and female professors, at 5.2% and 5.4%, respectively.
However, the article notes that only Princeton’s pay gap represented a decline from its figure in 2004 -- that’s right, the gender pay gap increased/got worse at all the other Ivy League schools. The worst was Dartmouth College, where the gender pay gap was at 22% -- up from 18% last year, and almost twice as high as the next worst Ivy League school, Columbia (12%). It looks like Dartmouth has a lot of explaining to do.
Overall, the results once again highlight that even in the academic world, where so many of us talk about and endlessly analyze gender discrimination, we still have a long ways to go to actually translate words into concrete action and results.
