USC vs. Notre Dame Game
I don’t consider myself a huge college football fan, but I did tune into the USC vs. Notre Dame game last Saturday and boy, am I glad I did. That was one of the best, most suspenseful, and hard-fought games I have ever seen. I rooted for USC, mainly because I grew up in SoCal and lived there for almost 20 years. Sports commentator Jim Rome captured my thoughts rather well, so I am reprinting his spiel about it here:
USC v. Notre Dame may not have been the greatest college football game ever played, but don’t tell me it’s not in the conversation. The Trojans did everything that a championship team is supposed to do. They overcame adversity, a hostile crowd and a very good, well coached team. Matt Leinart’s killing of the clock and taking it in for the game winner was absolutely brass.
USC was thinking, we’re the two time defending national champs, looking for a three peat, we’re not playing to get to OT. That was freaking macho. Allow me to be the first to congratulate Reggie Bush on winning the Heisman Trophy Saturday in South Bend. Start working up your speech, Reg, because short of a broken leg that hardware is yours.
As for the Domers, it was an absolutely gut wrenching loss but they have nothing to be ashamed of. They’re back and college football is much better for it. And while Charlie Weis may not have been their first choice, there isn’t a guy in the business who would have been a better choice. Unless winning another Super Bowl is on his list of things to do, the Domers should be set for the next 15 years or more.
Congratulations to both teams on a great game, extra congrats to the Trojans for pulling out the win, and let’s hope they finish it off with a third straight national championship.
